The impact of the explosive eruption at La Soufriere volcano and hurricane Elsa has created further economic challenges for the people in the red zone particularly in north windward.

That’s the view of opposition senator Shevern John who was speaking at a virtual meeting hosted by the NDP Tuesday July 28th. John said before the volcanic eruption and hurricane Elsa the people have been on the margin line of poverty and now things have gotten worse.

Senator John said everyone in the red zone has been affected in one way or the other and should receive financial support not just farmers and fishers.

John further added that in the cleaning up process more persons from the red zone should be employed noting the economic hardship they are facing trying to survive in other communities.
