Executive director of the Marion House Jeanie Ollivierre said that its Georgetown youth programme has been further affected by the eruption of La Soufriere volcano noting that there has been an increase of dropout rate from the last programme.

40 youths had registered but all will not complete the programme this time round. According to Ollivierre some were forced to seek employment.

The youth programme which started in February was disrupted by the eruption of La Soufriere volcano and the ongoing Covid- 19 pandemic.

Olliveirre pointed out that the youths had to be working under a shift system which at times was strenuous.

According to the Marion House director, the skills training programmes have been impactful on the lives of participants with the majority engaged in electrical and food and beverage.

The programmes in Kingstown will continue as planned, with 38 participants expected to graduate soon. A new programme is scheduled to commence in January.
