Rebutting the claim that last Thursday’s protest was illegal under the Public Order Act, lawyer Kay Bacchus Baptiste said contrary to the Commissioner’s assertion, the Constitution of St.Vincent and the Grenadines allows for peaceful protests without having to seek permission to do so.

In seeking to clarify the issue, Bacchus Baptiste explained the proper application of the Public Order Act.

The veteran lawyer further explained the difference between protests, demonstrations and meetings, for which the act should apply

Bacchus-Baptiste said this is the second incident that the  act is being misused as she detailed the prior violation and condemned the assertion of the police commissioner.
